I haven’t posted anything for a while, so I thought I would write a short update.
I’ve been in San Diego for almost 3 weeks now and I’m still missing Haiti tremendously. What I don’t especially miss, however, is the absence of fried food in my diet. I had my 3rd physical therapy visit today and plan for a couple more weeks of that. Unusually for me, I have been doing my exercises as prescribed and trying to follow all the rules. I’m starting to feel a hint of transverse abdominal muscle as I continue, but I still have to press down to feel them. I’ve learned a lot of exercises that I can easily do in Haiti to help my back, so that’s good. I have a physio ball and theraband packed and ready to go. My current plan to make it back before June.
I know I’ve written about Nadege and our process to get her a visa from Haiti to the U.S. for life-saving heart surgery. Everything seems to have worked out surprisingly smoothly and she’ll be arriving in the States this coming Sunday with Dr. Scottie. There is fundraising going on for her stay in Oklahoma during her surgery recovery process, so if you are interested in being a part of that, check out this link on facebook causes: http://www.causes.com/causes/608682 I anticipate the trip and her time here will be very difficult for her, especially not speaking the language, but she will be staying with great people who have also connected with some Haitians in their area. So I wish her all the best.
